(NASDAQ: WRAP) announced that the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) has purchased BolaWrap devices and Non-Lethal Response training as part of its initial deployment of non-lethal capabilities for campus safety and security. The company said the deployment is intended to support responsible, measured response by providing officers with an additional non-lethal tool designed to help reduce escalation and create opportunities for safer resolutions.
Wrap Technologies noted that the UMBC deployment advances its strategy to expand adoption of its public safety portfolio beyond traditional municipal law enforcement into markets including higher education, healthcare, transportation, critical infrastructure and security. The company's broader Non-Lethal Response ecosystem also includes Wrap Reality, WrapTactics, WrapVision and other public safety technologies.
The BolaWrap 150 device incorporates a multi-sensory distraction of sight and sound as a first response, followed by a non-lethal restraint if further escalation is required. This approach reduces the risk of injury to officers, subjects, and the community. Used by over 1,000 agencies across the U.S. and in 60 countries, BolaWrap is backed by training certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).
The expansion into higher education comes as campus safety departments increasingly seek alternatives to lethal force. UMBC's adoption of the technology could serve as a model for other universities evaluating non-lethal options.
