Ucore Rare Metals Inc. (TSX.V: UCU) (OTCQX: UURAF) has publicly supported its partner Hastings Technology Metals and Wyloo in acquiring a fully permitted mixed rare earth chloride production facility in Thailand. The acquisition is expected to accelerate near-term processing of monazite feedstock and bolster a Western-aligned rare earth supply chain. Ucore noted that this development supports ongoing discussions toward a long-term supply agreement tied to its Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex, as it works to integrate upstream supply with midstream processing and rare earth oxide production capabilities.
The facility in Thailand is poised to provide a critical link in the rare earth supply chain, processing monazite into mixed rare earth chloride. This intermediate product can then be further refined into separated rare earth oxides, which are essential for various high-tech applications including electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense systems. By securing this processing capacity, Hastings Technology Metals and Wyloo aim to reduce dependence on Chinese processing, which currently dominates the global rare earth market.
For Ucore, the partnership aligns with its broader strategy to establish a North American rare earth supply chain. The company’s Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex, once operational, is designed to produce heavy and light rare earth oxides from feedstocks such as those processed in Thailand. Ucore’s vision includes disrupting the People’s Republic of China’s control of the North American rare earth element (REE) supply chain through the near-term development of a processing facility in Louisiana, subsequent Strategic Metals Complexes in Canada and Alaska, and the longer-term development of its 100% controlled Bokan-Dotson Ridge Rare Heavy REE Project in Southeast Alaska.
Ucore Rare Metals is focused on rare- and critical-metal resources, extraction, beneficiation, and separation technologies. The company aims to become a leading advanced technology company providing best-in-class metal separation products and services to the mining and mineral extraction industry. Through strategic partnerships, Ucore is working to secure a stable supply of rare earth materials for North American industries.
