Lieutenant General Jim Laster, U.S. Marines (Retired), President and CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, emphasized the transformative power of a single book. "When children living in low-income communities have access to books throughout the summer, they return to school more confident, engaged, and prepared to learn. At Freedom Trail Elementary, a teacher noted that receiving books means more than just reading; it's the start of a child's first home library and a lifelong love of learning. At United Elementary, over 400 books were distributed, sparking excitement among students. Staff observed a growing love of reading both in school and at home. Similarly, at Entheos Academy, one student's face lit up with wonder upon finding a book about baseball, demonstrating how the right book can ignite a passion for reading.
