The Marine Toys for Tots program, widely recognized as America's flagship children's Christmastime charity, is expanding its mission beyond December through the 'Be a Summer Santa' initiative. According to a recent press release, the initiative comes to life during summer distributions, such as a recent event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, hosted by Storehouse of Community Resources, a redistribution partner of Good360. At this event, Toys for Tots provided two brand-new toys each to 1,600 children, many of whom had not received any new toys all summer. The impact was profound, with one mother of three sharing that her children had been asking all summer for fun activities, and she struggled to stretch her budget. When she realized each child could pick out two new toys, she became emotional, saying, 'I didn’t think they were going to get anything new this summer. This means more than you know.'
Lieutenant General Jim Laster, USMC (Retired), President and CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, emphasized that these summertime distributions are not about recreating Christmas morning but about extending its meaning. 'Being a Summer Santa means creating moments of happiness during times of uncertainty, strengthening communities, and reminding families they are not alone,' Laster said.
