SS Innovations Completes World-Record 12,500-Mile Robotic Cardiac Telesurgery

SS Innovations International, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSII) announced the successful completion of what it describes as the world’s longest-distance robotic telesurgery, a robot-assisted cardiac procedure performed across approximately 12,500 miles of fiber network distance between Guyana and India. The procedure, conducted using the company’s SSi Mantra surgical robotic system, was remotely led by CEO and cardiac surgeon Dr. Sudhir Srivastava from Guyana, while the patient-side system operated in India with a network latency of approximately 290-300 milliseconds.

According to the company, this achievement surpasses its previous telesurgery distance record of about 6,250 miles and further demonstrates the capabilities of the SSi Mantra platform in long-distance surgical applications. The milestone coincides with the launch of Guyana’s National Robotic Surgery Program and follows regulatory approval for the SSi Mantra in Guyana. SS Innovations noted that 173 telesurgeries have now been performed using the platform globally, including 22 cardiac telesurgeries, which it says makes SSi Mantra the only surgical robotic system currently used for robotic cardiac telesurgery.

This record-breaking telesurgery underscores the potential of robotic systems to bridge geographical gaps in healthcare, allowing expert surgeons to perform procedures remotely in underserved regions. The success of the SSi Mantra in maintaining low latency over vast distances suggests that advanced surgical care could become more accessible worldwide. The company’s achievement also highlights the growing role of telesurgery in reducing the need for patient travel and enabling real-time collaboration across continents.
