Six University Orthopaedic Associates Surgeons Recognized as Castle Connolly Top Doctors

University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA), a leading orthopaedic practice in New Jersey, announced that six of its surgeons have been named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors. The recognition places them among the top 7% of licensed physicians nationwide, as selected by peer nominations and a physician-led research team. The honored surgeons are Hesham Abdelfattah, MD; Christopher Doumas, MD; David A. Harwood, MD; Timothy P. Leddy, MD; James T. Monica, MD; and Kenneth G. Swan, Jr., MD.

These board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons are part of UOA, a practice with five decades of experience providing comprehensive musculoskeletal care. As members of OrthoNJ, the state's largest orthopaedic group, they are committed to clinical excellence, medical education, and community wellness. UOA's team treats a wide range of conditions, including traumatic injuries, degenerative joint diseases, sports injuries, spinal disorders, fractures, hand and upper extremity conditions, and complex deformities.

The surgeons employ advanced therapeutic interventions such as joint replacements for the ankle, hip, knee, and shoulder; robotic-assisted knee replacement; spine surgeries and motion-preserving disc replacements; hand and upper extremity reconstructions; minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures; and complex fracture fixation. UOA enhances patient care through an integrated network of on-site services, including advanced diagnostics, physical therapy, hand and occupational rehabilitation, and sports performance training. For outpatient procedures, the practice partners with the University Center for Ambulatory Surgery (UCAS) in Somerset, recognized on the U.S. News & World Report list of Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers and featuring opioid-sparing pain management protocols.

The physicians completed their medical education, residencies, and fellowship training at leading institutions nationwide, with specialties spanning joint reconstruction, sports medicine, trauma, hand and upper extremity surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spinal surgery, and non-operative care. Beyond clinical practice, they hold academic appointments at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and serve as orthopaedic consultants and team physicians for Princeton University, Rutgers University, Rider University, the Somerset Patriots, and numerous local high schools.

Castle Connolly Top Doctors are selected based on criteria including medical education, training, hospital appointments, and disciplinary histories. Doctors cannot pay to be included. For more information, visit Castle Connolly or University Orthopaedic Associates.
