Quantum BioPharma's MS Imaging Study Shows Encouraging Preliminary Results at Enrollment Midpoint

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment for its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study conducted with Massachusetts General Hospital. Preliminary PET imaging data from the study show encouraging signals in acute MS lesions, according to a recent article. The novel imaging technique is designed to distinguish demyelinated nerve fibers that may still be viable from permanent nerve damage, potentially offering a more precise way to measure myelin loss and repair.

These findings are directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company's investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. A more precise imaging tool and a drug candidate designed to address the underlying cause of MS make for a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests the science is holding up under real clinical conditions.

The study's progress is significant because it validates the potential of the imaging technique to track myelin repair, which could be crucial for assessing the efficacy of Lucid-MS in future trials. For patients, this could eventually lead to more personalized treatment monitoring and a clearer understanding of disease progression.

The company also invented unbuzzd and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., led by industry veterans. Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% of UWI and receives royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity.
