Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast, where co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company’s lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial product, unbuzzd. Durkacz emphasized that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments.
The therapy aims to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, as shown in preclinical models. Quantum BioPharma is preparing for a Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS, which will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients, following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers. This development is significant for the estimated 2.8 million people worldwide living with multiple sclerosis, as current treatments primarily focus on managing symptoms rather than addressing the underlying nerve damage.
Durkacz also discussed unbuzzd, a commercial alcohol metabolism product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism and currently available in the U.S. market. The product is part of a spin-out company, Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., in which Quantum retains a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026. The agreement also includes royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments to Quantum total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
The podcast appearance highlights Quantum BioPharma’s dual focus on innovative therapies for neurodegenerative disorders and commercial wellness products. The company’s pipeline includes drug candidates for challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders.
