National Conference Tackles $124 Trillion Wealth Transfer and Advisor Shortage

The financial advice profession is facing a dual crisis: an unprecedented $124 trillion wealth transfer and a looming shortage of advisors. Over the next two decades, this historic intergenerational transfer will reshape how wealth is managed and passed down, while more than one-third of current advisors are expected to retire within a decade. This exodus threatens to leave a gap of about 100,000 advisors by 2034, raising critical questions about who will guide families through complex financial planning and who will lead advisory firms into the future.

To address these challenges, the Association of African American Financial Advisors (Quad-A) is hosting the 2026 VISION Conference, titled "The Wealth Shift: Ownership, Legacy & the Next Era." Scheduled for September 10-12 in Washington, D.C., the conference will convene over 600 financial professionals, including advisors, wealth management executives, asset managers, RIAs, corporate partners, policymakers, and students. The event aims to tackle the intersection of these transitions head-on, with a focus on ownership, leadership, and the next era of financial advice.

Keynote speakers include renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump and sports broadcaster Stephen A. Smith, who will lend their perspectives on leadership, ownership, advocacy, and legacy as families build and preserve generational wealth. Their insights are expected to spark conversations about the broader societal implications of the wealth shift and the role of financial advisors in fostering economic empowerment.

"The wealth shift happening in American families is also happening inside advisory firms," said Sheena Gray, CEO of Quad-A. "Ownership, leadership, and client relationships are all changing hands at once. Our responsibility isn't simply to prepare the next generation of financial advisors—it's to prepare the next generation of firm owners, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders who will define what this profession looks like for decades to come. That's the work Quad-A is here to do, and VISION is where those conversations spark action."

The conference agenda is designed to address today's most pressing issues, including succession planning and increasing enterprise value, independent firm ownership and entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence and the future of financial advice, wealth transfer and legacy planning, public policy and advocacy shaping the profession, and recruiting and mentoring the next generation of advisors. These topics are critical as the industry grapples with both the retirement of seasoned professionals and the influx of younger clients inheriting significant assets.

As Quad-A marks its 25th anniversary, the conference serves as a milestone for the organization, which has long been dedicated to expanding opportunity and increasing access to trusted financial guidance. The event underscores the importance of ensuring that the next generation of advisors is not only prepared to manage wealth but also to own and lead firms, particularly among underrepresented communities.

The implications of this conference extend beyond the attendees. With the projected advisor shortage, the need for robust succession planning and mentorship has never been more urgent. By bringing together industry leaders and emerging professionals, VISION 2026 aims to foster actionable solutions that will shape the future of financial advice.
