Lantern Pharma (NASDAQ: LTRN), a clinical-stage, AI-driven precision oncology company, has received regulatory and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals in Taiwan to open Part 2 of its Phase 2 HARMONIC(TM) trial of LP-300. The lead Taiwan site is now open to accrual and actively screening patients, with Lantern anticipating IRB approval at two additional sites during the fourth quarter. This expansion is critical because it accelerates patient enrollment for a targeted therapy that addresses a specific genetic mutation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The HARMONIC trial focuses on patients with the EGFR exon 21 L858R mutation, a subset that often has poorer outcomes with standard tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatments. In the United States, a central IRB has approved the amended protocol, and clinical sites have begun identifying eligible patients. Part 2 will enroll patients with the L858R mutation who have progressed after TKI therapy, allowing LP-300 to be administered for up to eight cycles in combination with carboplatin and pemetrexed, up from six cycles previously. This extended treatment duration could potentially deepen and prolong responses, a key goal in advanced lung cancer.
Preliminary data from the trial showed median progression-free survival (PFS) of 8.9 months among nine L858R patients who completed six cycles, compared with 8.3 months among all 16 L858R patients evaluated. While the company cautions that these findings are preliminary, exploratory, and based on small patient numbers, the trend suggests that LP-300 may offer a meaningful benefit for this difficult-to-treat population. The Taiwan approvals are especially important because they broaden the trial's geographic reach, potentially speeding up the generation of robust data needed to support future regulatory submissions.
Lantern Pharma leverages its proprietary RADR artificial intelligence and machine-learning platform to transform the cost, pace, and precision of oncology drug development. By integrating large-scale genomic and biological data, RADR identifies patients most likely to benefit from Lantern's therapies, guiding biomarker-driven clinical development. This AI-driven approach is central to the company's pipeline, which includes LP-184 (zirdafulven), LP-300, and LP-284, along with its central-nervous-system-focused subsidiary, Starlight Therapeutics, and its AI subsidiary, Open-Medicine AI.
For investors and the biotech community, this announcement underscores Lantern's progress in advancing a targeted therapy for a genetically defined patient group. The expansion into Taiwan not only validates the company's regulatory strategy but also enhances the diversity of the trial population, which can improve the generalizability of results. As the trial continues to enroll, the data will be closely watched for signals of efficacy that could differentiate LP-300 in a competitive landscape.
