OYSTER BAY, NY — Applications are now open for the Keith Dagostino Scholarship for Cancer Survivors, a new national academic award designed to support undergraduate students who have overcome a cancer diagnosis. The initiative provides financial assistance to students who demonstrate leadership, strength, and academic dedication, aiming to ease the financial burden of higher education for those who have faced significant health challenges.
Cancer survival requires profound mental and physical endurance, and this scholarship acknowledges these unique challenges by offering support to college students across the United States. Open to undergraduates at any accredited American university or college, the program ensures that survivors receive recognition regardless of their geographic location or field of study.
To qualify, candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program within the United States and be in good academic standing. Applicants are required to submit an essay answering: "How has your journey as a cancer survivor shaped your understanding of resilience, and how do you plan to apply that strength to your future professional or community leadership roles?"
The founder, Keith Dagostino, established this program to honor individuals who have successfully navigated complex personal trials while continuing their academic pursuits. Dagostino built his career on dedication and perseverance, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from Hofstra University in three years before establishing a career spanning nearly three decades in financial services. As a Senior Managing Director, devoted husband, father of five, former youth sports coach, and school trustee, he recognizes the essential role that perseverance plays in achieving long-term personal and professional achievements. Through this initiative, Dagostino aims to ease educational expenses for students who exemplify these principles.
Scholarship applications must be submitted electronically by January 15, 2027. The selection committee will evaluate submissions based on original thought, leadership potential, and the applicant's articulated vision for contributing to their community. The official recipient announcement will take place on February 15, 2027.
