The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week, scheduled for May 11-31, 2026, aiming to solidify Hong Kong's position as a leading medical technology and investment hub. The event will feature two flagship gatherings: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), both taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ASGH will run on May 11-12, while the Medical Fair will be held from May 11-13.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized that the medical and healthcare landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, and Hong Kong, with its status as an international financial centre and world-class research ecosystem, serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence and strategic investment. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on high-growth areas such as biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
The ASGH, themed “Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs,” will feature a prestigious lineup of international health officials, scientists, and industry experts. The opening session will include remarks by HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick S Ma and Chief Executive John Lee, followed by a speech from Vice Minister Zeng Yixin of China's National Health Commission. Key sessions will address pandemic preparedness, cross-sector collaboration in healthcare breakthroughs, and the role of AI in revolutionizing healthcare. A highlight will be a dialogue with 2013 Nobel Prize Laureate Prof Michael Levitt, who will share insights on the transformative impact of technology on future healthcare.
The summit will also introduce a dedicated CSO Insights session, where chief scientific officers from leading biotech firms discuss strategies for accelerating scientific breakthroughs. Thematic sessions will explore AI in healthcare, the silver economy, and the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, in line with the National 15th Five-Year Plan.
The Medical Fair, themed “Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience,” will gather around 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions, showcasing the latest medtech, gerontechnology, and preventive healthcare solutions. Notable innovations include a smart health wearable that combines Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace integrating AI and wearable technology. The fair will also feature over 50 themed forums and seminars, covering topics such as mental health innovation and gerontechnology demand.
Both events will adopt an “EXHIBITION+” hybrid model, allowing global participants to engage through the Click2Match smart business matching platform from May 4-20. The International Healthcare Week aims to create a cross-sector exchange platform, promoting innovation and investment in the Asian healthcare industry and driving Hong Kong's development as a regional medical innovation hub.
