The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship promotional campaign, Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK), to Kuala Lumpur on 11 August, aiming to connect Malaysian businesses with regional and global opportunities. The full-day symposium at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur will gather business leaders, investors, innovators, professional service providers, and policymakers from both Malaysia and Hong Kong to exchange insights, explore investment opportunities, and forge cross-border partnerships.
As Malaysia pursues its New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which focuses on accelerating industrial transformation, advancing sustainability, and strengthening connectivity with global value chains, the symposium will illustrate how Hong Kong can support Malaysian companies in their regional and international expansion. Hong Kong, as Asia’s leading international financial and business centre, provides access to an established ecosystem of global businesses, investors, financial institutions, and professional service providers that can facilitate market entry, cross-border investment, and international growth.
Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasised the long-standing economic relationship between Malaysia and Hong Kong, stating, “Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to realise their ambitions beyond the domestic market.” Through HKTDC’s networks and platforms, the event aims to attract more Malaysian businesses to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages and connect with trusted partners, investors, and market insights to access opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the wider China market.
The symposium will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong’s role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions and innovations. Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia, will be the guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
In addition to the symposium, around 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products and solutions in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon, with one-on-one business consultations and on-site business matching to facilitate deals and collaboration. A delegation of about 100 government officials, business leaders, innovators, start-ups, and professional service providers from sectors including finance, business, professional services, innovation and technology, environmental services, and media and advertising will explore business opportunities in Malaysia.
The event also includes the Hong Kong Luncheon, providing further networking opportunities. By bringing together decision-makers from both markets, TBTHK aims to deepen Malaysia-Hong Kong business collaboration while providing Malaysian companies with the connections, expertise, and market access needed for regional and global growth.
Malaysia and Hong Kong share strong trade and investment ties. In 2025, Malaysia was Hong Kong’s 3rd largest trading partner among ASEAN member states. At the end of 2025, Hong Kong was Malaysia’s 2nd largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion.
