On July 18th, 2026, the Hollywood Neighborhood Cleanup team worked around the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles, CA, to clean the area and distribute L. Ron Hubbard's booklet, The Way to Happiness. The 12-member volunteer force cleaned along Franklin Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard before switching to booklet distribution.
During the distribution, a man selling tourist bus rides on Hollywood Boulevard recognized the booklet, stating he had read it while in prison. He said, 'Whenever I would read this book, it would just bring me calm. Sometimes you just gotta read, you know, and I remember this book. I liked it. Excellent.' At a coffee shop, a staff member opened the booklet and became so happy she requested a stack to place on the counter.
Near an underpass, an SUV driver rolled down the window and called the volunteers 'awesome,' receiving booklets in return. A local resident expressed appreciation for the cleanup efforts. Mike, a security guard on Hollywood Boulevard, took two booklets, and Glen from the Hollywood Partnership, which cleans the streets daily, thanked the volunteers. He referenced the movie 'Pay It Forward' and received a booklet to pass along.
Nick Kurtz, the cleanup in-charge, distributed bundles of a dozen booklets by asking, 'Hey, do you like to help people?' He explained the booklet's message about being a good citizen and neighbor. A family from Riverside took booklets to spread the word, and a girl initially suspicious later accepted a bundle happily.
For over 8 years, the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has donated The Way to Happiness booklets for neighborhood cleanups. The booklet, written by L. Ron Hubbard, states, 'Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities' and 'That is my wish for you.'
