The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has introduced GoGlobal Connect, a new initiative designed to support mainland Chinese enterprises in their overseas expansion efforts. The program leverages HKTDC’s 51 offices worldwide to connect mainland firms with Hong Kong’s professional service providers, strengthening Hong Kong’s role as an international business platform. The launch ceremony took place at the HKTDC SME Service Centre, officiated by Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick Ma, with over 200 enterprise representatives in attendance.
Prof Ma noted that Hong Kong rose to become the world’s fifth-largest merchandise trading economy in 2025, underscoring its trade resilience. He emphasized that GoGlobal Connect aligns with China’s 15th Five-Year Plan by helping mainland enterprises navigate overseas markets through Hong Kong’s internationally oriented services. Algernon Yau highlighted that the initiative complements the GoGlobal Task Force’s efforts, including attracting strategically valuable mainland firms to Hong Kong and organizing promotional events across sectors.
The initiative focuses on four key areas: establishing a cross-sectoral professional services platform covering eight sectors; setting up GoGlobal Connect zones at HKTDC flagship events for on-site consultations; integrating GoGlobal Connect elements into trade promotion activities in the Chinese mainland; and leveraging HKTDC’s global network for market connections. The service is also available at the HKTDC SME Service Centre.
Yao Chenpeng, Vice President of Transfar Group, shared that his company plans to set up an overseas business headquarters in Hong Kong. He credited HKTDC for facilitating meetings with government departments, chambers of commerce, and professional service providers, as well as helping sign cooperation agreements at the Belt and Road Summit. A recent HKTDC survey of over 2,000 mainland enterprises found that 83% plan to use Hong Kong’s professional services for global expansion, up from 62% in 2023, highlighting Hong Kong’s appeal as a service hub.
The Hong Kong SAR Government’s GoGlobal Task Force launched a thematic website in March at www.goglobal.gov.hk, which includes a link to HKTDC’s cross-sectoral platform. The platform has enhanced its service provider database and user interface, with plans to onboard more providers and improve matching functions in the second half of the year.
