HKTDC Food Expo Opens with Focus on Wellness and Global Flavours

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Food Expo, Beauty & Wellness Expo, and Home Delights Expo opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running concurrently for five days from 13 to 17 August. The fairs bring together more than 1,850 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions, creating a vibrant marketplace that spans food, tea, home living, beauty and wellness sectors. Under the central theme 'Live Well. Stay Well', the expositions aim to support healthier, happier and more balanced lifestyles, reflecting a growing global trend where wellness is integrated into everyday choices.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, joined by Dr Jonathan Choi, Council Member of the HKTDC, and Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC. Dr Choi emphasized that wellness has become an integral part of daily life, reflected in the food and beverages people enjoy, how they care for their homes, and how they nurture physical and mental well-being. This year's fairs offer a wide range of products and experiences aligned with this trend, from wellness-focused foods to innovative beauty devices and sleep technology.

Ms Chong highlighted Hong Kong's role as an international business centre and key food trading hub, serving as a platform for global food and catering enterprises to expand into the Chinese Mainland, Asia and international markets. Through platforms like the Food Expo PRO and the International Conference on the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products (ICMCM), the HKTDC fosters cross-border and cross-sector collaboration, strengthening Hong Kong's position as a bridge connecting the Chinese Mainland and international markets.

The fairs feature Five Themed Days to promote quality living. The first day, 'Happy Eat Happy Life', focuses on balanced nutrition and healthy living, showcasing products such as cistanche health drinks, ready-to-eat bird's nest, and organic dried blueberries. The Home Delights Expo features a high-speed food processor for texture-modified meals, while the Beauty & Wellness Expo offers complimentary health assessments. The Department of Health presents 'EatSmart Restaurant Star+' to encourage healthier menu options.

On 14 August, 'The World in Blink' centres on visual enjoyment with global delicacies like South African honey, Finnair's inflight chocolate, and Peruvian cacao nibs. The Beauty & Wellness Expo displays innovative beauty devices and clear aligners. Cultural activities include embroidery workshops and ethnic dance performances.

'Coffee or Tea?' on 15 August highlights the returning Coffee Zone with exhibitors from Yunnan Province, showcasing truffle-flavoured drip coffee, Myanmar Arabica beans, and Hawaiian Kona coffee. The Hong Kong International Tea Fair presents rare teas, including purple bud raw Pu'er tea, Laos white tea, and Ceylon tea. New pavilions include the Chinese Mainland Matcha Pavilion and the Yixing Zisha Teaware Pavilion, along with a 'Tea Lifestyle' zone featuring innovative tea beverages and Zen-inspired bonsai displays.

16 August is 'Stay Fresh, Stay Ahead', focusing on premium fresh produce. Hong Kong's Fish Marketing Organization and Vegetable Marketing Organization introduce their new unified brand, 'Hong Kong Harvest'. The Chinese Mainland pavilion presents hundreds of agricultural products and regional delicacies. The Gourmet Zone celebrates its 15th edition with 15 star chefs demonstrating exquisite dishes, and a commemorative recipe book is available.

The final day, 'Let's Chill' on 17 August, introduces a new 'Stay Relax' zone in the Beauty & Wellness Expo with red-light therapy pods and pain relief products. The Home Delights Expo hosts 'Go Sleep Exp' exploring the sleep journey. The Food Expo introduces a Dessert and Gelato Theme with over 100 desserts and speciality ice creams, including Hong Kong's first chewy treats themed market.

For trade visitors, Food Expo PRO introduces a 'Meat Zone' showcasing premium meats and a 'Food Science and Technology Zone' featuring alternative foods and food-service technologies. This year, Food Expo PRO also introduces pet food products with patented packaging technology. A dedicated halal food and beverage label returns for the third consecutive year, with over 130 exhibitors from multiple markets.

The International Conference on the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) expands to three days, focusing on 'Clinical Translation, Regulatory Policies and Global Innovative Pathways of Traditional Medicine'. It features over 30 speakers from various countries, discussing regulatory trends and industry practices. The conference is hybrid, allowing wider participation.

To celebrate the HKTDC's 60th anniversary, special promotions include free admission before noon with designated leaflets, '6'-themed offers, and daily lucky draws with prizes worth over HK$1 million. The 'Smart Bidding' session returns, and visitors can access the 'August Happy Buy' campaign website for savings. E-tickets are available through various platforms, and admission can be purchased on-site using mobile payments.

The fairs underscore the growing importance of wellness in consumer choices and provide a significant platform for industry players to connect with regional and global markets. The emphasis on health, sustainability, and innovation reflects broader trends that are shaping the future of food, beauty, and home living industries.
