HITN Media, the leading Spanish-language public media network in the United States, will broadcast the premiere of El Sueño Americano, a special Spanish-language edition of the award-winning documentary Amerigo: The Search for the American Dream, on Sunday, September 20, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on HITN TV. The program will also be available on demand via the HITNGo digital streaming platform beginning that day.
The broadcast arrives amid a demographic shift in U.S. entrepreneurship: nearly one in four new entrepreneurs is now Hispanic or Latino, up from roughly one in ten twenty-five years ago. That statistic, cited in the documentary, underscores a central theme of the film—that while opportunity remains unevenly distributed, Hispanic Americans are increasingly creating and claiming it. The special edition is part of HITN's Hispanic Heritage Month programming and aims to engage Spanish-speaking audiences in a broad, nonpartisan conversation about opportunity, family, work, and belonging.
Hosted by Emmy Award-winning producer, entrepreneur, and bestselling author David McCourt, El Sueño Americano draws from two years of cross-country travel in which McCourt spoke with more than 1,000 Americans from all walks of life. The unscripted conversations capture stories of struggle, resilience, and optimism, painting a portrait of a nation still defining what the American Dream means today. "When I set out to make Amerigo, I wanted to understand what the American Dream looks like today through the voices of people actually living it," McCourt said. "What we found again and again is that Hispanic and Latino Americans are driving it."
The special edition is adapted from the original documentary, directed by Adam Mason and co-produced by David and Julie McCourt of McCourt Entertainment. The original film, presented by South Florida PBS and distributed nationally by American Public Television (APT), premiered on public television stations beginning June 1, 2026, as part of programming marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. It will also be available on PBS Passport.
In addition to the broadcast, HITN will air a series of never-before-aired short capsules filmed by the Amerigo crew throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. These capsules are drawn from the documentary's companion campaign, AD250.com, where over 5,000 Americans—more than a third Hispanic and Latino—have shared video reflections on the American Dream. The capsules will be available on HITN TV and the program's dedicated digital hub.
"The stories of Hispanic and Latino Americans are an important part of the American story," said Michael Nieves, president and CEO of HITN Media. "Amerigo highlights their contributions and aspirations, making it a natural fit for HITN and our commitment to telling stories that reflect our community."
By offering this special edition, HITN not only caters to its Spanish-speaking audience but also elevates a critical national conversation at a time when the demographics of opportunity are rapidly changing. The network reaches more than 35 million households in the United States and Puerto Rico, ensuring that these stories and data points reach a wide viewership. The implications are significant: as Hispanic entrepreneurship grows, so does the need for media that reflects and informs this evolving reality. El Sueño Americano serves as both a mirror and a catalyst, inviting viewers to see themselves in the broader narrative of American aspiration.
