Enapter AG, a global greentech company specializing in anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers for green hydrogen production, has received a pilot order worth approximately EUR 0.5 million from a US drone manufacturer. The order includes AEM electrolyzers from the 4.1 series, with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The hydrogen-producing AEM modules are integrated into mobile, all-terrain refueling systems that generate hydrogen directly at the point of operation using water and solar power, without requiring a grid connection. This innovative approach eliminates the complex logistics of transporting and storing hydrogen in large compressed gas cylinders, which has been a major barrier to operating hydrogen-powered drones in remote areas. Compared with battery-electric propulsion, hydrogen propulsion offers drones significantly longer flight and mission times, as well as rapid refueling capabilities.
This pilot project is strategically significant for Enapter as it opens up a new application field where the modular design of AEM technology excels. The compact footprint, robust operation, and scalability of the system allow for easy expansion of hydrogen production by adding more modules. The global market for long-range and long-flight-time drones is experiencing robust growth, making this a promising avenue for Enapter's technology.
