Community Food Drive 'Flood the Food Banks' Collects Thousands of Pounds for Middlesex County Pantries

A coordinated effort to combat food insecurity in Middlesex County resulted in the collection of an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of food for local pantries. The August 5 event, dubbed "Flood the Food Banks," was organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way as part of the Middlesex Pantry Project, an ongoing initiative to bolster local food resources.

Residents donated non-perishable staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and macaroni and cheese. Contributions were distributed among 13 food pantries and food banks across the county, with two additional direct drop-offs to smaller pantries.

The Flood Law Firm served as the presenting partner, helping raise awareness and encouraging community participation. The firm's team also volunteered, interacting with residents and supporting organizations dedicated to alleviating hunger. Brian Flood, of the firm, emphasized the importance of year-round giving: "Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and serve our clients is an important part of who we are. Flood the Food Banks brought our team together with Middlesex United Way and community members for a meaningful effort that will help support families and individuals throughout Middlesex County."

The drive highlighted that while charitable donations often spike during the holidays, food pantries need support throughout the year. By coordinating a summer collection, the event provided essential resources to organizations serving vulnerable populations. The initiative received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH and a sponsored feature.

The success of the food drive underscores the power of community collaboration. In addition to the thousands of pounds of food, hundreds of dollars in financial contributions were also gathered, further strengthening the capacity of local pantries to serve residents in need.

The Flood Law Firm, founded in 2012 by brothers Brian and Chris Flood, is a Connecticut personal injury law firm. While the firm advocates for clients in legal matters, its involvement in this community initiative reflects a broader commitment to the well-being of the areas where it operates. The firm's participation in the food drive demonstrates how local businesses can play a pivotal role in addressing social issues, reinforcing the message that hunger is a year-round challenge that requires sustained attention and action.
