The 'Charm'tastic Mile' of Baltimore, a 1.3-mile corridor connecting Downtown West, the Inner Harbor, and Harbor East, is seeking an unprecedented 100-year agreement with the City of Baltimore and Mayor Brandon Scott. The proposed deal, valued at $1.25 billion, would span from 2026 to 2126, with annual payments increasing every 25 years. The agreement aims to cement the corridor's status as one of the most famous and iconic streets in America, particularly as the city moves forward with its nearly $1 billion construction project for the Inner Harbor.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile,' introduced on April 25, 2016, is the only registered trademark street in Baltimore and the State of Maryland, as noted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It shares its introduction date with the iconic Domino Sugars neon sign, which was first illuminated 65 years earlier in 1951. The 10th anniversary of 'The Mile' was celebrated in April 2026, with Mayor Brandon Scott and Governor Wes Moore issuing a Certificate of Recognition and a Governor's Citation, respectively.
The financial breakdown of the 100-year agreement is structured in four 25-year phases: the first 25 years (2026-2051) valued at $5 million per year, totaling $125 million; the next 25 years (2051-2076) at $10 million per year, totaling $250 million; the following 25 years (2076-2101) at $15 million per year, totaling $375 million; and the final 25 years (2101-2126) at $20 million per year, totaling $500 million. The annual average over the entire period is $12.5 million, a figure comparable to the salary of an above-average baseball player. According to Derrick E Vaughan, an analyst for Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America, this agreement is 'more than history for Baltimore, it's history for America.'
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is one of the few U.S. streets with a USPTO registered trademark, joining the ranks of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, Rodeo Drive, and the Las Vegas Strip. As the popularity of famous streets and sports culture grows globally, trademarked streets like the 'Charm'tastic Mile' are expected to become larger brands in the future economy. The corridor, listed on Google as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America, is seen as a catalyst for this trend.
The proposed agreement would require approval from the Mayor and City Council. For more information, contact Derrick E Vaughan at The Charm'tastic Mile.
