Licensed massage therapist Terry Johnson has opened Balanced Wellness Massage Therapy at the Salon and Spa Galleria South Cooper in Arlington, Texas. Johnson's practice focuses on helping clients achieve mental and physical well-being through a distinctive approach that emphasizes uninterrupted, flowing touch.
"Massage is very therapeutic," Johnson said. "People often think of massage as something simple—pressure, muscle, relief. But it's so much more than that." Johnson brings three years of experience, having trained at Tarrant County College and refined her skills overseas in Thailand. There, she learned that the body opens through trust, not force.
Johnson's technique involves maintaining continuous contact with the client throughout the session. She explained that breaking a stroke causes the body to "wake up" and resist, whereas seamless flow allows the nervous system to soften and the mind to let go. "That's when real change begins," she said.
During sessions, Johnson begins by warming the body slowly, allowing muscles to soften without resistance before gradually working deeper. Because tension is not met with force, she can access deeper layers without causing pain. "And all the while, my hands never lose connection," Johnson said. "Each stroke flows into the next, creating a rhythm that your body begins to follow."
Clients often report losing track of time or feeling as though they have drifted between sleep and waking. According to Johnson, this is where the real work happens—not just in the muscles but in the nervous system. "By the end of the session, it's not just that your body feels better. It feels reset," she said.
