The 6th Cross-Strait Sun Yat-sen Forum concluded on June 29 in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, drawing around 2,000 representatives from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. Held on the 160th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth, the forum was the largest in its history, with the highest participation from Taiwan compatriots and the greatest proportion of young attendees. Under the theme "Carrying Forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Spirit of Endeavor and Working Together for the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation," the event aimed to foster cross-strait exchanges and cooperation through cultural heritage and economic collaboration.
During the opening ceremony, the Zhongshan Municipal People's Government and the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland signed the Strategic Framework Agreement on Deepening Zhongshan-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation to Promote Integrated Development. This agreement lays an institutional foundation for long-term industrial cooperation across the strait. Distinguished guests from both sides highlighted Dr. Sun Yat-sen's role as a shared national pioneer and called for joint efforts toward national rejuvenation.
A series of cultural activities enriched the forum. Participants toured the century-old Sunwen West Road Arcade Pedestrian Street, experiencing Zhongshan's historical heritage and the vibrant culture of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. They also visited the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, studied revolutionary archives, and paid homage to Dr. Sun's bronze statue. Many participants noted that these activities provided a platform for sustained exchanges among young people and strengthened cross-strait spiritual integration through shared cultural roots.
Economic cooperation was a key focus. The forum hosted the "Taiwan Businesses Gather in Zhongshan, Industries Glow in the Greater Bay Area" 2026 Guangdong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Exchange Conference and Investment Promotion Event, celebrating the second anniversary of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. A total of 19 industrial projects were signed, including seven Taiwan-invested projects in semiconductor supporting industries, electronic components, smart home products, high-end fitness equipment, and medical devices. Another 12 Shenzhen-Zhongshan collaborative projects covered new energy vehicle components, industrial robotics, memory chip packaging, advanced specialty materials, and integrated cultural, tourism, and commercial developments.
Taiwan business representatives praised Zhongshan's business environment. Zhang Congyuan, Chairman of Huali Industrial Group, which has operated in Zhongshan for over two decades, commended the city's service philosophy of "staying out of businesses' way when everything runs smoothly while providing prompt support whenever needed." This environment, he said, has helped the company become a global leader in athletic footwear manufacturing.
Guo Wenhai, secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, invited Taiwan businesses to invest in Zhongshan, emphasizing the city's strong industrial infrastructure and high-quality government services. He pledged proactive, efficient support and continuous improvement of the investment environment. Leveraging the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, the city aims to create broader cooperation prospects for enterprises from both sides of the strait.
Participants and Taiwan business representatives agreed that this year's forum, marking the 160th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth, opened new channels for cultural exchanges and industrial cooperation. Zhongshan plans to continue organizing regular initiatives, including entrepreneurship support for young people from Taiwan, youth exchange activities, and Guangdong-Taiwan industrial matchmaking events. By carrying forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's spirit and embracing Greater Bay Area opportunities, the city aims to contribute to integrated cross-strait development.
